Department of Agriculture Trains Farmers in Post-Harvest Management at Kanewu

The Department of Agriculture organized a successful training session on post-harvest management at Kanewu, aimed at equipping local farmers with value addition skills. The training, held as part of ongoing agricultural development initiatives, brought together 23 participants—20 females and 3 males—who were trained in the preparation of tomato paste and tomato mix paste.

The session focused on preserving harvested tomatoes, improving their shelf life, and enhancing their marketability. Participants were taken through practical steps in processing tomatoes into paste, enabling them to reduce post-harvest losses and increase income through local sales and trade.

By equipping farmers, especially women, with value-added processing skills, the Department of Agriculture is promoting food security and economic empowerment within the municipality. The training also supports efforts to boost internal trade in agricultural produce while encouraging the availability of diverse and nutritious food options in local markets.

The initiative reflects the Assembly's commitment to sustainable agriculture and economic development, and further training is expected to be carried out in other communities.
