TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY SUPPORTS NUNGUA TRADITIONAL COUNCILS AHEAD OF THE 2025 HOMOWO FESTIVAL
The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA), led by its Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility on Monday 30TH June 2025, donated some assorted items worth millions of cedis, to the Nungua Traditional Councils and Sub Divisional Chiefs within the Municipality to support the celebration of this year’s 2025 Homowo festival.
The items presented included bags of maize, fish, bottles of water, drums of palm oil, cartons of assorted drinks, boxes of whisky and schnapps and undisclosed amount of money was donated by the Municipal Chief Executive.
“We have already done some of the traditional activities and everyone in the community got involved during the process. we look forward to having a joyous festival and invite all tourists to join in the celebration because this year is special” he noted.
He stated that, the items were to aid in the preparation of the traditional food, locally known as “kpokpoi”, a meal made with corn and palm oil, prepared to celebrate the festival, hence the donation of the food items.
“I want everyone to understand that the Homowo festival is here and as such, there is a need for the assembly to come in and wish our traditional leaders happy celebrations and by doing so we could not afford to come empty-handed, hence the donation of these items; some assorted drinks and an undisclosed amount of money to help make this year’s celebrations a memorable one” he hinted.
Hon. Ludwig later assured the chiefs that he would adhere to their advice and work towards their need as a son.
“I wil always run to you whenever am faced with challenges to seek your advice and guidance to enable me to serve the people well without fear or favour and I will make sure to tackle security challenges, as matter of urgency” he hinted.
He stated that, the Regional Minister has promised to give every Municipal Assembly streetlight which he is convinced he will receive the portion of the Tema West very station them at places where there’s no light that gives the robbers opportunity to attack people.
He also called on all and sundry to endeavour to keep their frontage clean as they celebrate the Homowo festival and admonished residents to desist from any violence before, during and after the celebrations.
“I also want to remind you all to abide by the sanitation by-laws, by keeping your frontages clean” he said.
He therefore urged the chiefs to always remember him in prayers and the staff as well to do what is right accordingly and bring the needed change to Tema West Municipality.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Nungua traditional council, Nii Afotey Gbetse VI, the Nungua Asoprotsonaa Mantse in the Nungua traditional council stated that, this year’s festival was a special celebration for the Nungua traditional area because they wanted to promote their tradition and bring unity among the people.
Nii Afotey Gbetse VI, again assured the community of proper security enforcement and cautioned them against indulging themselves in certain activities.
During such celebrations, people used the opportunity to do all sorts or illegal activities that went contrary to the purpose of the festival and therefore advised against such misbehaviors.
He also appealed to the people in the Municipality and beyond, to come together and celebrate without any distraction and to look at the way forward to improve the living conditions in the area.
Hon. MCE also presented some of the food items and undisclosed amount of money to the Divisional Chiefs in the areas which includes, ‘Sakumono, Lashibi, Klagon, Baatsona, Borteyman and Asoprotsonaa Divisionals within the Municipality..
