TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY UNDERTOOK A DEMOLITION EXERCISE AT SAKUMONO
The Tema West Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with a joint security taskforce, on the 22nd of July, 2025, carried out a major demolition exercise at the Sakumono Ramsar site to reclaim encroached lands and enforce development regulations.
The operation was greenlit by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, who officially demarcated the boundary before demolition works commenced. Participating agencies included the Assembly’s Taskforce, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Police Service.

The exercise, which drew coverage from major media outlets such as Joy News Online, Adom TV, Onua TV, and GH One, targeted unauthorized structures erected within the Ramsar site, a protected wetland area of ecological significance.
The Assembly reiterated its commitment to restoring order, safeguarding the environment, and ensuring proper land use within the municipality in line with national environmental and urban planning regulations.
