The month of February experienced hot weather with one rainy day.

Activities that were carried out include:

Extension Services Delivery
Home and farm visit
Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) assisted farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services. The Vet Extension agents also undertook their routine vaccination of livestock to provide prophylactic treatment and encouraged their clients to practice good animal husbandry practices.

Monitoring and Supervision
Monitoring at the green house at Vivian farm is still ongoing. The affected tomato plants have been discarded. The farmer has been advised to sterilize the media for re-use while he prepares to procure growbags later. The greenhouse structure also needs to be thoroughly cleaned before commencing next production. Officers visit the greenhouse regularly to check on the status and provide assistance in revamping the green house.

• Demonstration of grafting technology
A hands-on demonstration of grafting was carried out by Agric. Officers in the office. A scion of an improved variety of mango was joined onto the root stock of a local variety which was raised by AEAs in the Assembly.

• Good Agricultural Practices
The mango plant which had sooty mold infection in a household at Comm.20 is currently doing well. The farmer was advised to uproot some of the carpet grass at the base of the mango plant to make way for a hormone booster to be applied. This will enhance the growth of the plant. It has been observed that the whiteflies are no more active on the leaves. Periodic spraying has been recommended during the growing phase of the plant.
