TWMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN JUNE, 2023
The month of June experienced 15 rainy days.
Activities that were carried out include:
Extension Services Delivery
Home and farm visit
Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) assisted farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services. The Vet Extension agents also undertook their routine immunization and vaccination of livestock to provide prophylactic treatment and encouraged their clients to practice good animal husbandry practices.
Crop Production
1. Farmers in the municipality cultivated okro, maize, green, chili and bonnet peppers, lettuce, ayoyo, rice among others. Tomato, pepper and onion nurseries were established in this period

2. Some households have adopted container and backyard gardening that is being disseminated by Department. The purpose of this technology is for households to consume healthy vegetables from their various homes. Crops such as yam, tomato, pepper, cucumber cabbage, lettuce etc. are being cultivated in various homes in the Municipality

Monitoring and Supervision.
The Municipal Director of Agric. and 2 staff went on monitoring and supervision visits to Klagon and Santoe Operational Area to access the implementation of planned activities of AEAs and backstopped when it was necessary. Farmers were asked about their activities and challenges they faced during their line of activities to which technical advice was provided.

Farmers are also rearing cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, pigs and non-traditional livestock during the period under review.

Demonstrations
The Department organized a food demonstration on Utilization of Local Foods and Value Addition as alternative means of generating income and household nutritional improvement for a women’s group at Sakumono. A total of 56 made up of 52 females and 4 males were taught how to make yoghurt, different mango smoothies, Orange Flesh Sweet Potato (OFSP) juice, cake and doughnut.
Training
The Department organized Technical Review Meeting for staff. A total of 12 staff made up of 9 males and 3 females attended this meeting. The technical review meeting provided a great opportunity for the staff of the department of agriculture to learn and improve their skills in crop production and poultry.
