TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY JOINS TWO-DAY NATIONWIDE CLEAN-UP EXERCISE.
The Tema West Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, joined the nationwide two-day clean-up exercise declared by President John Dramani Mahama following the devastating floods that recently affected several parts of Ghana and claimed about 13 lives in Accra.
The exercise, which commenced on Friday, 10th July 2026 and ended on Saturday, 11th July 2026, brought together residents, personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, the Media, and staff of the Tema West Municipal Assembly. The team worked to clear choked drains and improve sanitation in flood-prone communities within the Municipality. During the exercise, the MCE was accompanied by the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Kwaku Tantantu. Both leaders inspected clean-up activities at various locations.
According to the MCE, the Assembly has consistently organized monthly clean-up exercises. However, he noted that the President’s directive was a special intervention in response to the recent floods.
He stated that most of the main drains within the Municipality were heavily blocked with refuse and silt. Hon. Totimeh further explained that the operation involved desilting, dredging, and re-engineering of major storm drains to improve the free flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of future flooding, in line with the President’s directive. He commended the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, and Ghana Immigration Service for their support, adding that the turnout of residents and volunteers was very encouraging.
The MCE assured residents that the clean-up campaign would not be a "one-day wonder" and that the Assembly will continue to undertake similar activities from time to time to keep the Municipality clean and safe.
