MCE WELCOMES FRESH PUPILS ON “MY FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL” TOUR, DISTRIBUTES LEARNING MATERIALS.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Lawyer James Enu, has visited multiple school campuses to welcome newly enrolled Kindergarten (KG) and Basic One pupil into the formal educational system on the 8th of September 15, 2026.
The annual exercise is a key government intervention designed to welcome, motivate, and integrate new learners, and to assess teacher attendance, evaluate infrastructural readiness, and directly interact with enthusiastic new pupils. As part of the tour, the MCE presented textbooks and other learning materials to support teaching and learning and to make the transition into school more welcoming for the children. The MCE, accompanied by officials from the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Education Directorate, visited various schools across the municipality as part of activities marking the annual My First Day at School programme. The schools visited were Aggrey Road Basic School, Mexico Basic School, Star Basic School, Mangoase Basic School, Lashibi Basic School, Adjei-Kojo Basic School, Baatsona Basic School, Kototobabi Basic School and Klagon Basic School. Addressing pupils and teachers, Hon. Totimeh encouraged the children to take their studies seriously and remain focused on their educational goals.
He described education as an important tool for enlightenment, personal advancement and national development, noting that quality education equips young people with the knowledge and skills required to secure meaningful employment, become responsible citizens, and contribute to community and national development. On his part, the Member of Parliament, Hon. James Enu, expressed appreciation to teachers for their dedication and commitment to educating the nation's children. He acknowledged the vital role teachers play in shaping the character and future of young people and urged them to continue upholding professionalism and dedication. He further encouraged parents and guardians to complement teachers’ efforts by creating supportive learning environments at home.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Sophia Ako, also urged the pupils to take their academic work seriously, cultivate discipline, respect their teachers, and show due respect to parents, guardians and the elderly. She reminded them that academic success requires discipline, commitment and consistency. The beneficiaries received biscuits and drinks to make the occasion memorable, a gesture which was warmly welcomed by the young pupils.
The MCE was accompanied by Mr. Emmanuel Debrah, Deputy Director of Administration; Mr. John Appiah Kwakye Asiedu, Municipal Information Officer; Mrs. Eunice Naa Afutu, Public Relations Officer; and officers from the Municipal Education Directorate. The My First Day at School programme forms part of broader efforts to promote access to education, encourage school enrolment, and create a positive environment for children beginning their educational journey. .
