CELEBRATION OF TRADITIONS AND ARTS
On October 18, 2024, in a vibrant display of artistic pride and culture, the Tema West Municipal Assembly held a traditional day festivity that brought together staff and community members to recognize Ghana's different artistic heritage. Hosted at the Assembly's grounds, the event was filled with art, music, traditional dances and games, celebrating the unique artistic backgrounds represented among the assembly’s staff.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Felicia Edem Atippoe, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the significance of Ghanaian culture in shaping the values of society." Ghanaian culture is a treasure that binds us together. This festivity reminds us of the significance of staying connected through our traditions and appreciating each other's backgrounds," said Hon. Atippoe. She encouraged staff to foster social connections, emphasizing the part of necessity in erecting a strong community.
The day’s festivities featured a wide range of dance performances, with staff members proudly representing different Ghanaian cultural groups. The event also included popular traditional games, similar as kpetenge, ludo, oware, tumpantu, and checkers, giving actors an occasion to contend and connect through friendly contest. In a memorable moment, Hon. Atippoe joined a match of oware, important to the delight of onlookers.
Winners of each game were celebrated with awards and gifts, adding a subcaste of excitement and community spirit to the gathering. The program’s highlight, was the donation of the Stylish Staff Award for the third quarter, given to Miss Stella Ampah in recognition of her exceptional job performance and fidelity to the assembly.
A culinary experience was added to the artistic absorption, as staff enjoyed a wide range of indigenous Ghanaian dishes, including fufu, banku, jollof rice, and waakye. Staff members participated stories behind these dishes, offering perceptivity into their artistic significance and sparking appreciation for Ghana’s rich gastronomic heritage. This traditional day brought together the Tema West Municipal Assembly in a festivity of necessity, culture, and collective respect. The successful event underlined the significance of artistic preservation in fostering a strong, harmonious community.
