TEMA WEST MUNICAL ASSEMBLY CREATES AWARENESS FOR “OPERATION CLEAN YOUR FRONTAGE”.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo on Friday 28th February, 2022 taxed residents within the Municipality to take sanitation around their homes, offices and shops as their personal responsibility as the Assembly prepare for the implementation of the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” from 1st February, 2022.

Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo gave the advice during a piloting on sanitization campaign at various locations within the Municipality ahead of the implementation.

She engaged the residents within Texpo market, Sakumono Estate Junction Taxi Rank, Community 2 European market and Community 5 Market on the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment without being forced to do so.

“Keeping your surrounding clean must come to you naturally, it shouldn’t be a matter of forcing the person, however it has become necessary to apply the law since we as a people have failed to do it on our own” she said.

Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo later stated that, “Operation Clean Your Frontage” initiative aims to enforce sanitation Bye-laws within the Greater Accra Region as part of the “Making Greater Accra work” program being championed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.

At Texpo market, the Municipal Chief Executive instructed the market women who have been selling along the road to move inside the market in other to create space for pedestrian and also to enable the Assembly to create space for parking lot for customers who patronize from the market.

At Sakumono Estate Taxi Rank some of the street vendors has engaged the pavement, the Municipal Chief Executive asked them to evacuate before 1st February, 2022.

Some of the resident raised concerns about the high volume of solid waste, particularly, plastic waste within the Municipality which does not generate from them but was disposed into drains only to accumulate in front of their shops. This they stated, only put a cost burden on them because they pay for its collection and called on the Assembly to severely punish persons who engage in such unsanitary behavior. The Municipal Chief Executive therefore assured them that, the Assembly is committed to punish anyone who violates the Bye-laws on sanitation.
