As part of her activities to socialize with residents and identify problems confronting the various electoral areas, the Municipal Chief Executive for Tema Municipal Assembly, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, on Monday 21st August 2023 began the five days electoral area toured of some parts of the eleven (11) electoral areas.

The toured which began on the 21st of August 2023 and ended on Friday 25th August 2023, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo’s first visit was the Kaizer electoral area, the Assembly Member, Hon. Opoku Danso led the team to the community 5 Star Basic School, where the Assembly have finished contracted first face of the Twelve (12) Unit classroom block.

At Kaizer Electoral area, the MCE promised to replace and repair some streetlight along TEMASCO road in community 5.

Hon MCE second visit was the Railway Electoral Area, the Assembly Member, Hon. Patrick Attiati Osanyonmor Laweh led the team to visit the community 5 library where the Hon. MCE assured staff working over there of her commitment towards education and submit to evaluating the image of the library to boost academic research and education in the Municipality. .

The team also made a visit to the Tema Secondary School within the Railway Electoral Area, the teachers were assured by the Hon. MCE to address the security situation in the school.

The MCE’s third visit was the Kassadjen electoral area, where she interacted with residents,through the Assembly Member Hon. Opoku Sekyere, she assured the residents of her commitment towards the provision of the streetlight to hasten security within the electoral area.

She also assured residents of addressing the drainage and the bad road situation within the electoral area.

She said sustainable development is the key for the betterment of the Municipality and assured them of full support in line with the vision of the President to develop the Municipality.

On the 22nd August, 2023 the Second Day, the team tour Halcrow electoral area under Hon. Dela Bruce, where the sewer situation over there undesirable and the gutters were choked with filth, plastic bottles, and others.

Hon MCE later indicated that, the sanitation problem can be solved if the residents are well educated on their responsibilities as a citizen which will help garb these challenges.

She therefore highlighted that, the assembly will organize a stakeholder’s engagement to enable them to educate residents on sanitation management and on the Operation Clean Your Frontage bye laws, and to enforce as the assembly will fine anyone guilty.

Hon. MCE later, the Assembly commit to desilt the within the municipality, especially the around BBC taxies station and enforce the sanitation and Health permit over there.

The Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, during the tour also observed some challenges which include the poor state of the BBC nursery school. “The nursery school built during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah regime as its roof ripped off among others. Therefore, the assembly managed to put the roof in shape during the raining season to enable the teachers to teach for better understanding by the children.” .

On the same day the MCE Second point of call was the Dzatabu Electoral Area, Community 3. The Municipal Chief Executive and her entourage met the Assembly Member of the area Hon. Owusu Bempah who led the team to the frontage of the Cocoa Marketing Company where the long vehicles park illegally causing a lot of traffic on that stretch of the road.

Hon. MCE upon assessing the situation on the ground, promised to invite the companies operating along the main road to discuss alternative parking spaces for the long vehicles.

The team also visited the centralized sewer network waste and water treatment facility which the President Nana Akufo Addo cut sod for a year ago. The surrounding of the facility has been turned into a dumping site for refuse and scrapyard by the squatters there.

Hon. MCE called on the residents especially the squatters to team-up with the Assembly member and unit committee members to organize a clean-up exercise on the to clear and clean the place.

“I will be pleading with Zoomlion and other organizations to assist us with trucks and tools to enable us to clear our municipality. She mentioned that the clean-up exercise will be organized Municipal wide, across all the electoral areas’’ she stated.

Hon. MCE also met a group of mechanics along the main road and called on them to always clean their frontage and partake in the upcoming clean-up exercise on Saturday.

The Third Day Visit was on the Wednesday 23rd August,2023, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo made a visit to the Wolei Electoral area, where the Hon. Assembly Member Richard Sorgbojor, led the entourage to the railway lines at Sakumono where unauthorized structures have been erected by squatters.

The MCE instructed management to demolish all unauthorized permanent structures along the railway lines at Sakumono.

Hon. MCE and her entourage visited abandoned market where unauthorized structures have been erected by squatters.

She pleaded with the squatters to relocate to a different place before the Assembly comes to demolish it since several notices have been served to them by the Assembly.

The team also visited the Sakumono TWMA Basic School and observed that most of the classrooms had very poor lighting system, cracks on the wall of the school and some parts of the roofing were off.

Speaking to the head teacher at the school, Hon. MCE assured him of reinstating the poise of the school from its deplorable state. She assured them of the provision of bulbs to improve the lighting system and additional toilet facilities for the pupils.

The team also tour the Adjei-Kojo Electoral area, the Assembly Member Hon. Charity Delay Siameh appealed to the MCE to evacuate the waste at the unauthorized location near GWCL District office and asked for the skip bin container to be placed at the vital point within the electoral area.

She later asked for the contraction of access roads around Tarasco Site area at Adjei-Kojo.

At Klagon Electoral area, the Hon. Assembly Member Ubor Henry took the team to the Klagon market where it has been encroached by squatters.

Hon. MCE also visited the Klagon KG school where the Assembly Member pleaded with the Hon. MCE to provide the school with a playing ground. She assured the Assembly Member to meet with management and see how best to address it.

During the tour, the MCE handed over ten (10) seater WC Toilet for the student in Klagon TWMA school and assure to renovate the fence wall at Klagon Basic school complex.

The team ended the tour at the Ayigbe town where the completed toilet facility funded by the Coastal Development has not been commissioned for use.

The Hon. MCE therefore assured that commissioning will be done soon and opened for use. She also pleaded with the Assembly Member to stop squatters from encroaching on the Ramsar site.
