TEMA WEST MUNICIPALITY MARKS INTERNATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY.
The Tema West Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Education Service (GES) have commemorated the International Girl Child Day with a call to promote gender equality and equity.
The International Day of the Girl Child was declared by the United Nations to amplify the voices of young girls around the world and increase awareness of issues they face.
She said every individual has a responsibility to act positively now to protect the right of the girl child towards a future devoid of inequality and imbalance in the society.
She noted that the relevance of such an internationally dedicated event was to put a spotlight on issues confronting the Girl-Child in a holistic manner for action to be taken.
‘‘As leaders, political, religious, and traditional, we must ensure that women and men, girls and boys enjoy equal rights, resources, opportunities and protection” she stated.
The Hon. MCE therefore hinted that, the Assembly was committed to promote, improve and enhance girl child education.She later entreated all stakeholders to do more in building a formidable society that does not marginalize the role of women and the girl child in development.
Mr. Isaac MacCarthy Mensah, the Tema West Municipal Education Director, pointed out that, it is time to celebrate and reflect on the social, political and cultural achievements of women.
He therefore urged for increased action to achieve gender equality in all areas of society from homes to the global stage adding that women are making great strides to advance gender equality.
