TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL PLANTS 5000 SEEDS.

The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) on Friday 10th June, 2022 joined the national Green Ghana campaign by planting 5,000 trees seedlings within the Municipality to commemorate this year’s Green Ghana Day initiative by the Government under the auspices of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

The Green Ghana agenda forms part of the efforts by the government to preserve and protect the country’s forest cover and environment at large. This year’s target is to plant 20 million seedlings across the country. Addressing the media after the planting, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo disclosed that, the Assembly in collaboration with Forestry Commission, Educational Directorate and other stakeholders will be planting 5000 tree seedlings within the Municipality.

She said, Assembly is putting measures to ensure the survival of the tree seedlings planted and there would be constant monitoring of the planted tree seedlings.

Planting of trees is important to create sustainable communities, preserve the environment and instigate the effects of climate change. “It is very necessary because it helps in greening the municipality, beautifying it, improving air quality, reducing the heat and promoting walkability in Tema West Municipality.” She stated She later disclosed that, the forestry commission supplied the assembly with 5000 seedlings which includes coconut, militia, montalis, vishia palm and oranges to be planted all over the municipality. Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, later appealed to Ghanaians especially the good people of Tema West Municipality to take the Green Ghana project seriously because human beings depend on tree for survival. The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Isaac McCarthy Mensah who was also present in a remark mentioned that, planting of trees promotes better environment for all and cleaner air to breath and therefore stressed the need for everyone regardless of the person’s affiliation to take this initiative seriously to preserve the environment by planting trees in their various places.
