On June 9, 2024, the Tema West Municipal Assembly undertook a significant operation to demolish building structures at the Sakumono Ramsar site that were constructed in a waterlogged area without the necessary documentation. This decisive action was led by Hon. Titus Glover, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, in collaboration with the MCE of TWMA, Hon. Felicia Edem Attipoe, police officers, staff of the Assembly, including the Works Engineer, and the Task Force.

The operation is part of a broader effort to address the municipality's flooding issues. Unauthorized construction in waterlogged areas exacerbates flooding, posing serious risks to the community. By enforcing building regulations and removing illegal structures, the Assembly aims to mitigate these risks and improve overall drainage in the municipality.
