Activities that were carried out in November and December include:

Extension Services Delivery

Home and farm visit

Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) assisted farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services. The Vet Extension agents also undertook their routine immunization and vaccination of livestock to provide prophylactic treatment and encouraged their clients to practice good animal husbandry practices.

Crop Production

1. Farmers in the municipality cultivated tomato, onion, okro, maize, green, chili and bonnet peppers, lettuce, ayoyo, among others.

3.There was harvesting of crops such as okro, maize, tomato, onions from the various operational areas during the period under review.

4.Farmers are also rearing cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, pigs and non-traditional livestock during the period under review.

5.The Department of Agriculture paid a visit to catfish farmers located at Comm.17. During this visit, officers inspected the farms and engaged in conversations with the farmers to gain better understanding of their operations. This allowed them to assess and evaluate the productivity and condition of the farms, in addition to gaining better insight on how they carry out their routine activities.

Farmers day Inspection

The inspection team from the department of agriculture and other departments inspected 20 hardworking farmers who were nominated by AEAs for awards on Farmers Day. The team visited various operational areas to assess the nominees' enterprises and their knowledge on crucial global issues like climate change. They also evaluated the innovative value addition these farmers have brought to their work. These farmers were selected for their dedication, innovation, and commitment to the agriculture in the municipality

39TH NATIONAL FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION

The Department of Agric. through the Municipal Assembly organized the 39th Farmer’s Day at the Ebenezer Methodist Church Car Park in Comm. 20. Ten (10) farmers made up of 7 males and 3 females were awarded and honored with various awards during the celebration and was fully participated by about 350 farmers, staff, chiefs and other dignitaries.
