TWMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN JULY, 2023
The month of July experienced 15 rainy days.
Activities that were carried out include:
Extension Services Delivery
Home and farm visit
Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) assisted farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services. The Vet Extension agents also undertook their routine immunization and vaccination of livestock to provide prophylactic treatment and encouraged their clients to practice good animal husbandry practices.
Crop Production
1. Farmers in the municipality cultivated okro, maize, green, chili and bonnet peppers, lettuce, ayoyo, rice among others. Tomato, pepper and onion nurseries were established in this period

2. Some farmers were transplanting of seedlings such as tomato and onion whiles others were harvesting crops such as ayoyo and green pepper in the period under review

3. Some households have adopted container and backyard gardening that is being disseminated by Department. The purpose of this technology is for households to consume healthy vegetables from their various homes. Crops such as yam, tomato, pepper, cucumber cabbage, lettuce etc. are being cultivated in various homes in the Municipality.

Monitoring and Supervision
The Municipal Director of Agric. and 2 staff went on monitoring and supervision visits to Abattoir, KICC, Sakumono and Solomon City Operational Area to access the implementation of planned activities of AEAs and backstopped when it was necessary. Farmers were asked about their activities and challenges they faced during their line of activities to which technical advice was provided.

Farmers are also rearing cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, pigs and non-traditional livestock during the period under review.
