TWMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN MARCH 2023
The month of March experienced experienced 3 rainy days..
Activities that were carried out include:
Extension Services Delivery
Home and farm visit
Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) assisted farmers, Farmers Based Organizations (FBOs) and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services.
The Vet Extension agents also undertook their routine vaccination of livestock to provide prophylactic treatment and encouraged their clients to practice good animal husbandry practices.

Monitoring and Supervision
1. Some farmers have expressed interest in catfish farming. A visit was made by the Municipal Agric. Director and Regional Fisheries Officer to some interested households within the Municipality to provide advisory services for catfish production.

2. A meeting with the Comm.3 Livestock executives (an FBO) was made during the period under review. The Mun. Agric. Director, 2 agric. staff and the executives discussed about the current activities of the Association and the various farms. They then went on monitoring visits to the various farms and provided technical advice.

Crop Production
• The department is cultivating maize, okro and cucumber. Nurseries for pepper and lettuce were established for the preparation of the department’s container gardening.

Farmers in the municipality cultivated okro, maize, green, chili and bonnet pepper, lettuce, ayoyo, among others.

The mango plant which had sooty mold infection in a household at Comm.20 is currently doing well. The hormone booster, Paclobutrazole and Multi-K was later applied which will enhance the plant growth.
