TWMA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN SEPTEMBER 2022

The month of September was characterized heavy rains and cold weather. Activities that were carried out include:

Activities on-ongoing include;

1. Extension Services Delivery
Home and farm visit
1.1. Agricultural field officers assisted farmers, FBOs and other clients along the agricultural value chain by providing them with technical knowledge on new technologies as well as advisory services. Some free agrochemicals under the PFJ programme were also distributed.

2. Crop Production
2.1. Harvesting of crops is ongoing in various operational areas, crops being harvested include; Tomatoes, Lettuce, Cauliflower, Onions, Okro and others.

Containerized Gardening
2.2. A variety of crops such as okra, cabbage, tomato, chili and bonnet pepper, beetroot, ayoyo, gboma and yellow melon have been harvested from the garden under the period under review.

3. Training, Sensitization and Demonstration: Utilization of Local Foods and Value Addition for Income Generation and Nutrition Improvement
The Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the Department of Social welfare organized a food demonstration on utilization of local foods and value addition as an alternative way of generating income and improving household nutrition for households at No. 2’ Kotobabi Presby School. The products demonstrated were baked orange flesh potato (OFSP) drink, fried and baked doughnut. A women’s Group at Emef were sensitized on mushroom and snail production. The Department also organize a sensitization program on Gender Mainstreaming and HIV/AIDS at Comm.3. A total of 36 individuals made up of 27 females and 9 males were sensitized on gender mainstreaming and how to handle gender concerns for national development. They were also briefed on the current situation of HIV/AIDS, causes, prevention, types of treatments for HIV infected persons and the need to stop stigmatization.

4. Staff Meetings and Trainings
The department organized monthly meetings for staff to update the house on information from the department and various operational areas.

AEAs had the opportunity to attend a training program on agricultural machinery, tools and chemicals organized by the Regional department of agriculture in collaboration with Crop Doctor Ghana Limited.
