REPORT ON TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE HELD STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT WITH SQUATTERS OF TEXPO ON THURSDAY 23 MARCH, 2024 AT THE TEXPO MARKET.
The Tema West Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, in collaboration within the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and officials from the Presidency on 23 March ,2024 engaged stakeholders including squatters at the Texpo Market to brief them the need to relocate to pave way for the construction of the Municipal Hospital under the Agenda 111 programme
Addressing the gathering, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo, explained that, even though the Assembly has the power to just forcefully drive the people out of the land since the land belongs to government, they just seem it prudent to deliberate with them (squatters) for a smooth process since they are not oblivious of the socio-economic impact ejection would have on their lives and livelihoods.
‘We as an Assembly have the power to drive you away, but we have to put human face to educate you before the Assembly clear the land allocated for the construction of the Municipal Hospital’. She hinted.
She however affirmed that, the benefits of the hospital to be built on the land is for all residents in the Municipality and beyond, hence cannot be sacrificed for just few hundred individuals who will equally benefit from the hospital.
Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo later hinted that, the Assembly has allocated nine acres of land for the project and the end of April is the grace period for the squatters to vacate from the land.
The representative from the office of the President on the Agenda 111 programme informed the gathering that, the start of the project had actually delayed due to land issues and the project may be given to a different Assembly if the delay continues.
The officials later appealed to the squatters to vacate from the land and relocate to a different place in order to speed up with the construction. In his contribution, the Tewa West Constituency Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Hon. Kwesi Poku Bosompem, thanked the government for the initiative of constructing a Regional Hospital in Tema West Municipality and thanked the leadership of the Assembly for deciding to engage stakeholders before the project kick-off.
