TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE DISBURSED FUNDS TO THE DISABILITY.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo through the department of Social Protection and Community Development, on Thursday, 11th August, 2022 presented items and disbursed cheques to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Municipality.

The items which include, Double Decker Deep Freezers, wheelchairs, Fufu pounding machines, Medical Supplies and other contraptions were procured by the assembly out of the three percent allocation of PWD’s from the District Assembly Common Funds (DACF) to enhance their livelihood.

The items were procured based on request after need assessment was conducted by the department. In all, 14 beneficiaries including five (5) males and nine (9) females were considered disbursement, which six (6) children with urgent surgical needs benefited.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, Hon Ann Naa Adukwei Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Tema West Municipal Assembly, hinted that, the input of PWDs into Ghana’s growth was equally important and the Municipal Assembly would priorate their needs in Municipality to function effectively.

She later assured that, the Assembly would continue to create policies and opportunities for all by establishing members economically, to meet their needs. “Our vision as an assembly is to empower our young men and women’s socio-economically and integrate them in the society” she noted. Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo stated that, from 2018 to 2022 the assembly has registered 350 people living with disability in the Municipality and was committed to assist them without begging on the street for survival. She later advised the PDWSs to make use of the support they received to enable them expand their businesses. Mrs. Clara Sowah, head of department for Social Welfare and Community Development, stated that, plans were afoot to promote the welfare of all PWDs in the Municipality and pledge the Assembly to facilitate programmes that will enhance the wellbeing of all PWDs.

She said the intellection was meant to make PWDs self-sufficient and empower them to contribute meaningfully to societal and national development. Receiving the items on behalf of beneficiaries, the representative of the Ghana Federation of Disability, Mr. Patrick Obeng expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the continuous support towards PWDs in the Municipality.

He therefore showed gratitude to management especially the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive and Social Protection and Community Development for their kind gesture and assured to use the items for the purpose it was meant for. The event was graced by dignitaries from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Assembly Members and dignitaries across the Municipality.
