THE WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY MARK’S 38TH NATIONAL FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION.

The Tema West Municipal Assembly led by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo on Friday 2nd December, 2022 joined the rest of country to Marked this year 38th farmers day celebration with a called-on farmers to be more innovative and adopt modern technologies to make farming a more lucrative and profit-oriented business.

This year celebration is 38th of its kind since the inception of the celebration in 1984 and the 5th since the Tema West Municipal Assembly came into being in 2018.

Making the day at Mexico Basic School Park in Tema Community 2, Hon. Anna Naa Adukwei Addo hinted that, Agriculture is the backbone of the country’s economy, hence farmers should embrace change and be innovative to see the increase in Agricultural productivity.

Speaking under the Theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through value Addition” she situates the importance that the government places on agriculture in enhancing a productive nation and economy, as a developmental agenda as a nation cannot be achieved without conscious attempt to improve the agricultural sector.

She therefore encouraged the good citizen within the Municipality about back yard gardening adding that the Assembly looks forward to adopting programmes to enhance home consumption and excess harvest to serve as means of income.

Hon. Naa Adukwei Addo, stated that, the Assembly under the Agric department have train number of young people including women, who are getting involved I agriculture stressing that through proactive programmes by the government more person have been realizing that agriculture can be very lucrative center.

“I am truly encouraging to see increasing number of young persons that been coming into the sector and seeing it as building a future for themselves and their families” she noted.

On his part, Mr. Carlos Kingsley Ahankara, Member of parliament for Tema West Constituency, promised to make a conscious effort to have land that can be use for farming to be provide the constituency with what the eat.

He therefore commended the gallants’ farmers to their tremendous efforts over the years and urged them to take advantage of government planting for foods and jobs flagship programme to do more.

In her welcome address, Mrs. Patience Alloh, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, hinted that farmers contribution to the socio-economic development of Ghana through the provision of jobs and income generation.

She later encouraged the youth to take advantage and venture into the sector because farming is now a profitable venture.

The Agric Director called for massive investment in the agricultural sector by both public and private entities to help create jobs and incomes for the people.

“Investing in the sector is not a waste but very profitable because you will get back what you have invested” she noted

On his part, Mr. Dan Acquaye, the Executive Director of Agric Impact Limited who was the chairman for the event expressed gratitude towards the achievement of the farmers and urged farmers in the Municipality to keep producing on a large scale.

Mr. Dan Acquaye appealed to the government to focus and invest in Agriculture and farmers since without them we have no food and future.
