TEMA WEST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY ENGAGES TRADERS AHEAD OF TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF COMMUNITY TWO MARKET.
The Tema West Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, held a stakeholder engagement with market women, traders, and the drivers' union at the Tema Community Two Market on Tuesday, 31st March 2026.
The meeting discussed the upcoming decongestion exercise and temporary relocation of the market to the Aggrey Road Basic School park to pave the way for the alteration and modernization of the market facilities into a 24-hour market. In his opening remarks, Hon. Totimeh stated that the meeting aimed to inform stakeholders about the temporary relocation, affecting traders along the stretch from former Adom FM to the C2 printing press.
He explained that the exercise would involve removing traders selling along the roadside and lorry park, as well as those who had extended containers beyond their shops, to create access routes and adequate space within the market for the construction of the proposed 24-hour economy market. The government intends to upgrade the Tema Community Two market, and traders affected by the redevelopment will be temporarily relocated to the Aggrey Road School park. "The assembly is creating a temporary shade at the Aggrey Road School park to enable market women to locate there, giving access for the market facility,".
Speaking to the traders, the Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency, Hon. Lawyer James Enu, noted that the 24-hour economy market aims to create secure, modern, 24/7 commercial hubs, including cold storage, daycare centers, police posts, and hospital facilities.
He urged traders to comply with the Assembly's directive and contribute to the Municipality's development. The meeting included key stakeholders, such as Tema West MP Hon. Lawyer Enu, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, Mr. Mohammed Issah NDC chairman Tema West Constituency, Assembly Member Hon. Mary Enno, and some departmental heads of the Assembly.
