Tema West Municipal Assembly oganized party for PWDS.
In the heart of Tema West, a beacon of hope shone brightly for the community's People Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
On December 28th, the Department of Social Protection and Community Development of Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) in collaboration with individual philanthropists hosted a transformative program designed to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and donated food baskets (rice, mackerel, soft drinks, hand sanitizers) to children living with disabilities and their caregivers who are under the Tema West auspices.
The day began with a powerful session led by the Head of Department, equipping about 65 children with their caregivers cushioned with these food items pending the disbursement of the 3% common fund. Vital information was shared on their rights, access to social services, and crucial self-advocacy skills. Open dialogue flourished, fostering a sense of empowerment and collective action among the PWDs.
There was a potent cocktail of hope and determination for ordinary Ghanaian children living with disabilities, as they try to navigate their world with resilience and hope while looking into the future. Messages resonated deeply, proving that barriers can be shattered with unwavering spirit. Caregivers shared appreciative messages and goodwill messages to the Department and sponsors.
Laughter filled the air as the program offered a much-needed stress-free space for socializing and enjoying the festive season. Gifts from the TWMA brightened the faces of participants, while children's dancing and merrymaking added a touch of pure joy.
While practical needs were addressed through the distribution of clothing, food items, and provisions, the program's impact went far beyond immediate relief. Meaningful connections were forged between PWDs, the department, and Sponsors paving the way for future collaboration and a powerful support network.
While impactful, the program's reach was limited by resource constraints. Increased funding and partnerships are crucial to ensure that the benefits extend to a wider range of PWDs in Tema West. Additionally, ongoing sensitization campaigns are made by the department to combat negative attitudes and discrimination towards PWDs within the community.
The day concluded with a powerful message: as the Department pledge to do more in the coming years; it was the spark for a brighter future. The program in Tema West served as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the transformative power of inclusivity and support for PWDs. It ignited a sense of community, empowerment, and a vision for a future where all abilities are celebrated and supported. By working together, local authorities, organizations, and community members can ensure that Tema West becomes a place where everyone thrives, regardless of their abilities.
